Beauty is tied to wholeness.
Things that are beautiful are whole; wholesome. They might not be perfect, but beauty is not necessarily perfection. I’ve come to think that beautiful things are often innately imperfect; beauty is in the dents, the scars, the scratches, the patina. Beauty is life written all over us.
Beauty is in accepting the imperfect. In embracing the marks of the journey. Beauty is in battle scars. The most beautiful things are not necessarily the visually breathtaking; most beautiful things are the most whole and most true. Like compassion. Or sacrifice. Or kindness. Or unselfishness. Anything that makes us reach for more life.
This is why I’ve come to believe that beauty is therapeutic. It brings the mind closer to what it was supposed to be. It pieces us together like a puzzle with lost pieces; slowly we become more who we were meant to be. There’s no hope without beauty.
